I lived through the Emo wave of the 2000s vicariously through my older daughters, and now my younger daughter is equally immersed in everything Emo, just like her sisters. So, I'm certainly no stranger to this genre. I say "Emo" because, admittedly, I'm not enough of a connoisseur to distinguish between Emo, Emo Pop, Post-Hardcore and the myriad of other subgenres that, to me, all fall under the same umbrella. That might make it sound as though I'm not a fan, but nothing could be further from the truth. Good music, after all is good music.

The EP opens with "STANDING OVATION" and, yes, I'm using all caps because that's how it's listed on YouTube Music. I like to stick with whatever the band has chosen. The moment the track kicks in, you know exactly what you're in for, relentless energy and a sound that's instantly recognisable. The vocals carry that familiar sense of urgency that makes the delivery so infectious. Add in driving guitars and pounding drums, and you have what I'd happily call a radio ready anthem.

"DOWN FOR THAT" follows in a similar vein but with a slightly softer edge. That doesn't mean it loses any of its intensity. It still packs a punch and once again showcases everything that makes this style of music so enjoyable when it's done well.

I love the drum intro to "F.O.M.O.". The song is admittedly quite formulaic, but that's exactly what fans of the genre are looking for, and it delivers with confidence. It's easy to imagine a packed venue with the entire crowd singing every word back to the band.

We get a slight change of direction with "RICH!". To my ears there are echoes of Green Day, a comparison that may horrify fans of either band, but approaching it without preconceived loyalties probably makes those similarities easier to spot. They're subtle touches rather than wholesale influences, and they never make the song feel out of place alongside the rest of the EP.

The EP closes with "TROUBLE". It doesn't have quite the same intensity as some of the earlier tracks, but I think that's to its benefit. It offers a slightly different perspective and provides a satisfying, well rounded conclusion to the release.

There's no denying the talent on display throughout this EP. It's an exhilarating burst of youthful energy and enthusiasm that's difficult not to enjoy. From the opening moments it grabs your attention and refuses to let go until the final notes fade away. You really can't ask for much more than that.
