Dutch Interior—It's Glass
Posted by admin on April 11, 2026

I have to admit, the name Dutch Interior was unusual enough for me to dig a little deeper, but aside from the fact they’re based in LA, I couldn’t find much else. So, I suppose we’ll just have to let the music do the talking.
The EP opens with "Ground Scores", and this is one of those moments where another artist came to mind straight away, in this case Badly Drawn Boy. It’s a soft, folky song with a definite dark edge, but it’s not a doom-laden affair and, in a way, belies its subject matter.
The next track, "Go Fuck Yourself", reminded me of Ben Folds. It’s a piano-driven, quite frankly great song that delivers its barbs with a beautiful flourish. It kind of reminds me of the advice I give my kids: when someone is rude to you, respond by being even more polite. It tends to drive those kinds of people nuts.
"Say Anything" is a strange turn for the album. It’s four minutes of off-kilter guitar and lyrics that feel almost filtered through some kind of ethereal static. About halfway through, it shifts into something more angelic, at least musically, before descending again into that same sense of strangeness and eventually returning to where it began. Very odd.
"It’s Glass" returns to a more orthodox style, this time as a traditional piano-driven ballad. There’s still a hint of ethereal guitar, before the acoustic guitar opens things up a little, adding a touch of warmth. Once again, the beauty of the music is juxtaposed with very melancholic lyrics. I love the sustained note at the end, which flows seamlessly into the next track.
The EP closes with "I Have No Clue", and the dark edge continues, which I can fully embrace when it’s delivered like this. I often talk about the ebb and flow of an album, but here it’s mostly ebb, with the EP opening somewhat upbeat before descending in stages of melancholy toward this kind of inevitable conclusion.
I really enjoyed the EP. That said, I would add the caveat that once it’s over, you might feel the need to put something else on to lift the mood again, as I did find myself feeling somewhat deflated.
