A Secret Cove

This is not the usual fare from Indie Launchpad, but never let it be said that I don't have eclectic tastes in music and sometimes it's very much something that needs to be matched by mood.

I first became aware of this album back in June and at first I dismissed it as not my usual cup of tea, but for some reason I kept coming back to the Bandcamp page and listening. Today I find myself in need of something to salve the soul and remembering a recent email from the creator Daniel Land, thought I'd give it another listen and something clicked.

There are two tracks on the digital album, A Secret Cove (High Tide) and A Secret Cove (Low tide). The tracks themselves are slices of a 60 hour generative composition and the last release in the riverrun series. I think it may lead to a little confusion as the CD release is 72 minutes, but where the CD releases differ is that no two releases are the same.

The music itself is probably best summed up as ambient, new age, ethereal electronic music. It's organic in the way that it shifts and unfolds and on the first track the bird song gives it a feel that very much ties to nature.

This isn't going to be something you put on in anticipation of tapping your feet, or bobbing your head. This is music that almost dictates the use of headphones and time to let it wash over you.

As I said there are two tracks to the digital release and to be honest, I couldn't tell you the difference between the two. They're very different, but at the same time, so very similar and with time, it's likely one of them will resonate more with you than the other.

It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but for those that want to be held in a moment, cocooned away from life's constant hustle and bustle and just be held in a calmness, at peace for a little while, this is an ideal album for you.

A Secret Coves is the eleventh and last release in the rivverrun series and I will certainly make a point of looking into the other 10 releases.
