Bodhi—Be My Guest

I know little about Bodhi, other than that she’s from Connecticut, which sometimes keeps me from going down a rabbit hole and instead lets me focus on the music.

The four-track EP opens with "Tylenol", and the instant I heard the guitar, I knew this was right up my street. Add Bodhi’s vocals to that, and it truly becomes compelling listening. It’s a tale of sadness, a cry of longing and wanting to be loved. Ingredients for some of the greatest songs.

"If We Don’t Fall in Love" ups the tempo, though love remains the underlying message. This track feels a little more produced, but that’s more an observation than a criticism. Where the previous track was mostly acoustic, this one adds electric guitar and drums to drive the pace, and when the chorus hits, a vocal track provides some nice harmonies.

Again, with "Hold Me Down", it’s a more complete band sound, but Bodhi’s vocals come through, clear, sharp, and easy to listen to. The track itself adds a little more pop to the mix, but it’s a subtle infusion rather than anything radical. I particularly like the guitar flourish at the end. So far, the three tracks have all been excellent, each with their own distinct identity, but nicely complimentary to each other.

The final, and title track, "Be My Guest", returns to the more acoustic sound that opened the EP. It’s a welcome return, providing a sense of closure and continuity. The stripped-back arrangement allows Bodhi’s vocals to shine, bringing warmth and intimacy to the forefront. It’s a fitting way to close out the collection, leaving the listener with a lingering sense of reflection and satisfaction.

Bodhi’s four track EP is an intimate and emotionally resonant collection that blends acoustic warmth with subtle pop flourishes. Her vocals are clear, expressive, and effortlessly draw the listener in, while the arrangements balance simplicity with just enough production to create depth and variety. The EP flows naturally, opening and closing with acoustic intimacy that frames the more dynamic moments in between, leaving a lasting sense of reflection and satisfaction.
