Jonathan Coulton is one of those artists, that appears from time to time, who finds a musical niche and manages to fill it very well. I've seen his name mentioned a few times in the breath as They Might Be Giants (TMBG), probably due to his quirky musical overtones, but I think he sounds much easier on the ear.
